Gothenburg, Sweden, 30 October 2013: SKF announced today that it will start deliveries according to a contract with Volvo Car Corporation in China. The contract is for the delivery of wheel hub bearing units (HBU) and MacPherson suspension bearing units (MSBU) for the newly launched Volvo S60L car model, which will be manufactured in Volvo’s new factory in Chengdu, China.
“SKF and Volvo have a strong global cooperation and long history of partnership. The same is now taking place in China, where our teams are working tightly together. To be a strong engineering partner and to support customers like Volvo’s growth in China, we have put in place local, skilled technical and engineering resources including product design and development, testing and validation, as well as global standard laboratories and a product investigation centre right here in China. We are fully ready to serve our customers for their expansion in this fast growing market,” says Torsten Nordgren, Director, SKF Automotive Asia.
Last year, SKF announced the investment into a new SKF Campus and automotive factory to manufacture their third generation wheel hub bearing units (HBU) and MacPherson suspension bearing units (MSBU). This investment enables SKF to increase local capacity to support Volvo’s and other automotive customers’ growth in China. The new factory in Jiading/Shanghai will be fully operational in 2014.
SKF has been supplying HBUs and MSBUs for the Volvo S80L car model in China
since 2007. Now SKF will start to supply the newly launched S60L car model as well. Both car models are especially adapted for the Chinese market.
